Ko Lanta / Koh Lanta : Chill out paradise tropical Island in Thaland, Southeast Asia

Looking For A Chill Out Island In Thailand?

What is Koh Lanta or Ko Lanta?

Koh Lanta is a tropical island with a perfect location ideally situated in the growing Krabi province in southern Thailand.

Easily accessible from Krabi & Phuket airports Koh Lanta has evolved from a 1980's backpacker haunt into one of the new hot spots in Southeast Asia.

While Koh Lanta does now have resorts catering for holiday makers looking for their five star comforts there is still plenty of accommodation for mid-range and budget travellers.

The 30 kilometer west coast offers many beaches all with their own character - from family friendly Khlong Dao Beach, laid back Khlong Nin Beach and the almost deserted beaches in the far south Lanta really does have something to offer everyone.

The secret is out!

Koh Lanta has great white sand beaches, beautiful beaches spread along the island's west coast with the east coastline offering great views of the scattered islands between Koh Lanta and the mainland, stunning sunsets, a full range of hotels, resorts and bungalows, fantastic diving and snorkelling, amazing Thai food, western food is widely available but be brave and try the delights of Thai cuisine. Healthy, tasty, colourful and exciting it is one of the world's favourite cuisines. a laid back beach bar or restaurant to enjoy the breathtaking sunsets while sipping an ice cool beer or cocktail...and friendly people not yet jaded by mass tourism.

Koh Lanta is actually two islands : Koh Lanta Noi and Koh Lanta Yai.

Koh Lanta Noi is the smaller of the two islands and doesn't have tourist facilities. Visitors arriving by road pass through the smaller island on the way to the larger Koh Lanta Yai.

Both islands are part of the Koh Lanta National Park and archipelago of over 50 islands in the Andaman Sea that protects 134 km of sea along the southern peninsular of Thailand.

It was established as Thailand 's 62nd national park in 1990, as a result of the combined efforts of Wildlife Fund Thailand, the Royal Forest Department and the House of Representatives of Thailand's Parliament.

Saladan in the north of Koh Lanta is the main centre for shopping. You will also find banks, bureaux de change and a supermarket here. In addition to these you will find many restaurants with views across the khlong (river) to Koh Lanta Noi.

Saladan is also where the ferries leave for Phi Phi, Phuket and Krabi. You will also find the Go Dive Lanta shop in Saladan - come by and say hello!
