Depth :  5-30 Meters (15-100 feet)

Visibility : 5-15 meters (15-50 feet)

Suitable : All levels of Scuba divers and Snorkelers.

Ko Phi Phi's scuba diving highlights.
They are one of the best places in Thailand to see Leopard Sharks and have a healthy local population of these graceful creatures. There are also underwater pinnacles, drop-offs, walls, bolders, caverns and swim-throughs to explore.

The Phi Phi islands are an incredibly scenic diving destination. The topography from the surface is absolutely stunning; monolithic limestone mountains rising vertically from the sea and soaring to heights of more than 500 meters. Underwater you'll find an amazing environment of rugged caves, overhangs and swim-throughs in the soft rock. Other dives include sheer walls that plunge from the surface to over 25 meters. These walls contain a profusion of soft corals, large orange-colored fans, black corals, and long stringy sea whips.

Made famous by the film the beach the Phi Phi Islands offer some great diving.  Most of the dive sites are on the uninhabited Phi Phi Lei, which is about a 2 hour boat journey from Koh Lanta. The most frequently dived sites are Palong Wall and Maya Bay.  A new 40 meter wreck that has only recently been sunk will also make and interesting addition the diving in the area.

Dive Sites : HTMS Kled Keaw Wreck, Viking Bay & Hin Klai

Dive Site : HTMS Kled Keaw Ship Wreck

An ancient Royal Thai Navy transport support vessel, the HTMS Kled Kaew, went to a watery grave 19th March 2014 just off Phi Phi Leh Island,
where it is expected to attract coral and marine life, and become a popular dive site. -
The Kletd Kaew was built in 1948 for the Norwegian Royal Navy, being launched initially as the RnoMS Norfrost. Eight years later it was acquired and renamed by the Royal Thai Navy (RTN).

Before the 382-ton, 47-metre vessel was sunk, several holes were cut through the hull to assist in the sinking and also to allow skilled divers to explore the interior.

The sinking, a joint action by the RTN and the Dept of Marine & Coastal Resources, was presided over by Capt Nantapon Malarat, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Tab Lamu Naval Base in Phang Nga.

Dive Site : Viking Bay

Viking is one of our favourite sites on Phi Phi, with enough variety to keep all levels of diver happy. Due to its location on the north east side of Phi Phi Leh island, it rarely has any noticeable currents making it an easy dive even during strong current periods.

The dive boat generally moors up in a shallow bay and divers descend directly by the boat or swim into the shallower bay if preferred.

Swimming right out of the bay at 12m depth will take you to a large concrete artificial reef which is home to large schools of fish and nudibranchs.  Anemones filled with clownfish sit on the frames and huge pufferfish swim nearby.  Lone barracuda can often be spotted hovering inside, and perhaps most interesting is the large school of resident batfish which are rarely seen at any other Phi Phi dive site.

After a tour around the artificial reef, a 5 minute swim across the sandy bay will take you to a shallow reef covered in fans and soft corals.  Look for flounder, pipefish and cuttlefish in the sand, as well as small anemones with cleaner shrimp inside and occasionally a leopard shark!  Many different moray species can also be found here, including giant, honeycomb and zebra.

This dive site is a submerged circular coral reef about 2km east of Phi Phi Ley. It is one of the favorite dive sites around Phi Phi Island . It is famous for it's large shoals of Fish, Soft Corals, Hard Corals and there is a 99% chance to see Leopard Sharks!

This site is also known as Garang Heng. Can be found only 10 mins boat ride northwards of Hin Bida, the Phi Phi Shark Point. The dive starts at around 5 meters and drops down slowly to a sandy seabed at just over 17 meters. This submerged sister to Shark Point offers an excellent back up plan for viewing Thailand’s Shark population.

Leopard Sharks are spotted regularly resting on the sandy bottom and the small Bamboo Shark usually found hiding underneath the hard coral formations. Huge Gorgonian sea fans stand proud from the reef providing shelter for all manner of Shrimp’s, Crustaceans and Nudibranchs. This isolated reef allows divers the chance to observe several members of the Anemone fish family including the now world famous Nemo (Western Clownfish) all living in perfect symbiosis with their host anemone. This dive site can also be accessed from koh Lanta.
